Palhinha told to ‘hand in transfer request’ after ‘staggering’ Liverpool reveal – pundit
Liverpool have exposed their transfer budget after missing out on signing Moises Caicedo.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs defender Alan Hutton has claimed that the Reds will have to spend heavily if they want to sign Joao Palhinha from Fulham.
Football Insider revealed on 18 July that the Cottagers have warned David Moyes’ side against another move for Palhinha after rejecting their opening £45million bid.
It is believed Fulham’s price tag for the midfielder is also a problem, with Liverpool feeling the Londoners are trying to price them out of a move by demanding a “staggering” £90million for him.
With a move for Palhinha to Liverpool hanging in the balance, Hutton believes that it will be tough to get over the line.
“I think it’s going to be difficult to sign him,” he told Football Insider.
“They’ve put out there that they’ve got money to spend after missing out on Moises Caicedo..
“It could cost them £80million or more, it’s a lot of money, and Fulham know that they’re desperate for that position to be strengthened so they can really ask what they want.
“They’ve got the player under contract, so I think moving forward it will be difficult for Liverpool depending on what the player says.
“Sometimes players have got power and if they want to leave they can hand in a transfer request.

“All this I’m not saying that’s going to happen, but those avenues is something that Palhinha can go down, so we’ll wait and see how it develops.
“But they’re going to have to pay a lot of money.”
