Alfonso Pedraza makes comment that will have Leeds fans drooling in anticipation
By Harry Sykes
Alfonso Pedraza has told Leeds fans his direct playing style will be better suited to the English game than in his native Spain.
The 20-year-old left winger gave some insight into his loan move to the Championship big hitters after completing a deadline day transfer from Villarreal.
Pedraza cut short a season-long loan at second-tier Spanish side Lugo to join Leeds on a loan-to-buy deal for the remainder of the campaign.
It has not been officially confirmed but it has been widely reported in Spain that Leeds have an obligation to sign Pedraza for £8.5million if they are promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season.
The Spain Under-21 international will arrive as something of an unknown quantity as he has never played at the top level in his homeland but has promised he can make an immediate impact with comments that will have Leeds supporters drooling.
“I think with the way I play, English football will suit me because it is more direct and easier for my style, I am very quick and have a lot of drive,” said Pedraza, as quoted by the official Leeds website.
“The team is in a good moment, we are in a situation where reaching the Premier League is a possibility, so I hope I can add my best, to help the team complete this objective.
“I’m 100% ready, I have trained with the squad and team, as soon as the coach selects me, I will be raring to go.
“This move is a step forward for me and my career, when I heard I had the opportunity to come and play for Leeds, I was very happy to accept the proposal as it is such a well known club, even in Spain.”
Pedraza was not registered in time to feature for Leeds in their midweek win against Blackburn at Ewood Park but is available for selection for the first time on Sunday, when his new side make the short journey to face Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield.
The Spaniard played 23 matches for Lugo in the opening half of the season and had an impressive record, scoring six goals and supplying eight assists.
