Pedraza posts Twitter message to Leeds fans after debut defeat
By Alex Stevens
Alfonso Pedraza has revealed his “sadness” on Twitter at Leeds falling to defeat on his debut for the club on Sunday.
The Yorkshire giants slipped to a 2-1 defeat against rivals Huddersfield at the John Smiths Stadium in a hotly contested league encounter.
Deadline day signing Pedraza was not named in the starting XI but was introduced as a substitute after 62 minutes in place of Souleymane Doukara.
He could not turn the match in Leeds’ favour and subsequently took to Twitter to explain his emotions to supporters.
The left-winger revealed on his personal Twitter account that he was “sad for today’s result but happy for making my Leeds debut”.
The 20-year-old joined Leeds on deadline day in a loan deal from parent club Villarreal that runs for the remainder of the campaign.
Pedraza cut short a loan spell at Spanish second-tier side Lugo to join Leeds’ promotion charge and it has been reported that he will join in an £8.5million permanent deal if the team secure promotion to the top flight.
Leeds’ defeat at Huddersfield has resulted in a fall in the Championship table to fifth position after Huddersfield wrested fourth spot following Sunday.
Nevertheless, Garry Monk’s side are well placed for the promotion run-in and remain established in the play-off positions, eight points clear of Norwich in seventh position.
Leeds are next in action on Saturday of next week when they host Cardiff at Elland Road for an afternoon kick-off.
In other Leeds news, fans have reacted hilariously to Gaetano Berardi’s role in the late brawl against Huddersfield.
