Pedro Caixinha: This is how new Rangers recruit must improve his game

By Danny Wright

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has urged new recruit Bruno Alves to start showing more communication on the pitch despite only just settling into life in Glasgow.

The 35-year-old is highly regarded as one of the Light Blues’ best additions of the summer, even though nine new faces have been announced by the club.

Alves was the first player to join Caixinha in his Ibrox revolution and his leadership qualities are expected to see him become a captain-like figure in the heart of the Gers defence.

However Caixinha, 46, would like to see the Portuguese enforcer talk to his team-mates a bit more during matches.

“He’s that type of leader that doesn’t need to express too much because just his presence makes all the guys know what’s going on,” said the Portuguese manger in a video on Rangers TV’s official Twitter account.

“So that’s the type of leadership that Bruno is having – more by the presence.

“If you ask me do I want more from him, I want a little bit more communication and also coaching from the back because he is seeing all of the game. I really want Bruno to represent me on the pitch.”

Alves has been followed by Ryan Jack, Fabio Cardoso, Dalcio, Daniel Candeias, Alfredo Morelos, Eduardo Herrera, Carlos Pena and Graham Dorrans in joining Rangers this summer, with most of them already earning their official debuts in the Europa League.

The former Porto and Zenit centre-back didn’t feature in either legs of the humiliating aggregate defeat to Proges Niederkorn as he was away on international duty with Portugal at the Confederations Cup.

However the experienced stopper is largely expected to become a pivotal part of the Light Blues’ rearguard next season as they aim to compete with Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title.
