Harry Kane should snub Manchester United and instead sign for Manchester City, according to Kevin Phillips.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Red Devils are still too far away from winning the Premier League.
A United source has told Football Insider the club are lining up a players-plus-cash bid for the England captain as Tottenham’s £150million valuation is out of reach.
It is understood the Red Devils will look to sweeten the deal by offering some of their top stars in part-exchange.
This site first broke the news that the England captain wants to quit Tottenham this summer.
Phillips claims he wouldn’t sign for Man United if he was in Kane‘s position, instead favouring a move across Manchester.
“Personally, I don’t feel he would go to Man United,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“They will be there or thereabouts next year. But, I just think that Kane needs to go somewhere where you’re guaranteed to win the Premier League.
“I just feel Man United are another season away from properly challenging unless they have an unbelievable summer.
“You have to say, if they spend the money on Kane, are they then going to be able to go out and sign another three or four world-class players?
“That’s what they need this summer. They need a season or two to win the Premier League but Man City could easily win it next year.
“I’m not telling him who to sign for, but if I was him I would be signing for Man City if that’s an option.”
