Phillips ‘wowed’ by Ramsey after what he’s heard from Aston Villa
Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is having a major influence on the development of Jacob Ramsey, according to Kevin Phillips.
The former Claret and Blue, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 20-year-old is “clearly” taking on board the advice of his manager.
Ramsey starred for Villa on Tuesday in a comfortable 2-0 win over Norwich City.

Speaking to BT Sport after the win (14 December), Ramsey revealed he wants to be a goalscoring midfielder like Gerrard.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Ramsey’s form, Phillips said:
“It would take a hell of a lot to reach a level anywhere close to Steven Gerrard. If he was, wow, fair play to him.
“He is definitely benefitting from the coaching of one of the Premier League’s greatest ever midfielders. It is most certainly helping.
“You have to give most of the credit to the player though. It is not easy to put into practice the information the staff are trying to give you. He is clearly listening and taking on board what he’s being told.

“He is a very exciting player who is scoring as well. Everyone at the club can be extremely proud of him. He is a big talent.
“A rare goalscoring midfielder. His manager was certainly one of the best at that in the Premier League.”
