PL club are prepared to let Spaniard leave with Newcastle eyeing a move – report
By Harvey Byrne
Fellow Premier League side West Ham are prepared to let goalkeeper Adrian leave this summer with Newcastle eyeing a move, according to a report.
The Daily Mail have claimed on their website that the Hammers are willing to allow the 30-year-old Spaniard to depart despite fellow goalkeeper Darren Randolph seemingly close to a move to Middlesbrough.
West Ham themselves have also brought in England international goalkeeper Joe Hart on loan from Manchester City this summer.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have been linked with a host of stoppers this summer following their promotion and the Mail reports that both Crystal Palace and the Magpies are interested in Adrian.
The experienced stopper still has two years remaining on his contract in east London after joining in 2013, but after playing just 19 times in all competitions for West Ham last season he could now be seeking further first team opportunities.
Football Insider verdict:
It is clear that Newcastle need to add a new goalkeeper to their ranks this summer with last summer’s main keeper signing Matz Sels failing to make an impact in the north east of England. Adrian himself has certainly proven he has what it takes to play in the Premier League and he was considered the Hammers’ first choice up until a string of errors in the last campaign. If Newcastle were to sign him then they will be hoping that he can recapture his old form. Therefore, the Magpies should certainly consider a swoop for the available Adrian this summer, but they should also look at other options as there is no guarantee that the Spanish national can repeat the displays he gave earlier in his career.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies are pursuing a high-profile signing of a player valued at £20million.
