PL manager slaps huge price tag on reported Tottenham 24-year-old target
By Danny Wright
Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed that Tottenham would have to pay £40million to acquire the services of Wilfried Zaha.
The attacker has been a long-term target of the North London club with the he Sun reporting that Spurs are planning to raid their Premier League rivals for him in the summer.
Allardyce is hoping to keep hold of Zaha though, and has insisted that he would rather not enter what is bound to be a competitive transfer market to find a summer replacement.
The Premier League manager was asked if Zaha was worth £40million, and made an emphatic response.
“Personally, in today’s market, absolutely (he’s worth £40m). I just hope no one bids it,” said Allardyce, as quoted by the Metro.

“The problem we have at Crystal Palace, and every football club, is that it’s like the housing market. ‘What a fantastic price I’ve got for my house, I’ve bought it for this price and sold it for that’. But then you have to go into the same market. Stay with what you’ve got, man.
“And that’s nearly impossible with agents ringing the press and telling you what’s happening. It’s not always the truth that they tell you but you don’t know it’s not the truth so you print it.
“As far as I know, Wilfried’s contract has a considerable amount of time on it. The summer will bring with it whatever it brings whether that is us negotiating a new contract with him and he wants to stay, or whether some outrageous bid comes along.”
Zaha, 24, featured in all 90 minutes of Tottenham’s 1-0 win at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night.
He was making his 33rd appearance of the season across all competitions and has scored six goals and provided 11 assists.
The five-times Ivory Coast international is also linked with a move to Tottenham’s title rivals Chelsea.
Zaha is currently in his second spell at Selhurst Park after his brief stint at Manchester United which was no more than a failure.
He’s made a total of 253 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 33 goals.
According to the Sun, Zaha isn’t the only Palace player that Spurs are looking at, as they have also been keeping tabs of 17-year-old Kian Flanagan.
Football Insider Verdict
Allardyce has now let Spurs know how much he believes Zaha to be worth, so Pochettino and Daniel Levy can now begin to work up an action-plan to sign the 24-year-old with a price in mind. There isn’t any player in Spurs’ strongest XI that would be ousted by Zaha, but they showed in their FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea that there is a lack of depth at the club which needs sorting out. Chelsea had the ability to make game-changing substitutions while Spurs’ only threat off the bench was right-back Kyle Walker. Zaha could be that impact player they’re looking for so it is imperative that they sign him.
