Jamie Murphy makes Rangers claim about defeat to Celtic
Rangers ace Jamie Murphy has claimed it was easier to play in an Old Firm clash than it was to watch as a supporter after making his debut in the derby last weekend.
The winger was one of Rangers’ better performers in the 3-2 defeat by Brendan Rodgers’ side as the Gers’ title hopes went up in smoke at Ibrox.
The 28-year-old joined his boyhood heroes on loan from Brighton in January and has scored three times and contibuted six assists for Graeme Murty’s side in 10 appearances.
Murphy admitted the Gers need to “move on” from the defeat with another two meetings between the sides to come before the end of the season.
“We lost. It’s not what we wanted but we’ve got to learn from it and move on, especially as we play them twice more this season,” Murphy said, as quoted by the Sunday Post.
“I remember as a fan getting nervous watching these games. To play in it was much easier.”
Murphy is expected to make his loan move permanent in the summer with the Gers having an agreement already in place with the Premier League side.
The winger’s form has seen him win a recall to the Scotland squad for the first time since 2016 and Murphy could win his first cap in next week’s friendlies with Costa Rica and Hungary.
Football Insider verdict:
Murphy has been a good signing by the Gers but for the second game in a row, the 28-year-old struggled to have any luck breaking down a team who were content to let Rangers play in front of them. The on-loan Brighton man will be a good bit of business if/when he signs in the summer. The Gers still need to add some quality to the side but the addition of Murphy has been good work. The winger is right the Gers need to move on from the defeat from Celtic but on the evidence of the game v Kilmarnock they haven’t.
