Pochettino delivers Edwards update, shares if he will play in Tottenham cup clash
By Dominic Toner
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that wonderkid Marcus Edwards will return to full training on Friday, but feels Saturday’s FA Cup tie will be too soon for him to make his back comeback..
The 18-year-old has been out of action since October with an ankle injury and has seen his progression into the first-team stall.
However, the right winger is now set to return to training and he is rated as one of Spurs’ best emerging youngsters at White Hart Lane.
Pochettino has explained that Edwards is ready to take part in training, but the game against Wycombe could be too soon, as cited by ESPN’s Spurs correspondent Dan Kilpatrick on his personal Twitter account.
Spurs host League Two opposition Wycombe on Saturday at White Hart Lane and Pochettino may be prepared to hand some of his fringe players the chance to impress.
Edwards is unlikely to feature in the game, but the England Under-19 international will be thrilled to return to training after his long-term absence.
The attacker made his senior Spurs debut this season in the EFL Cup victory against Gillingham in September and is tipped to become a first-team regular in the future.
He is blessed with incredible skill and will be hoping to compete for a spot alongside the likes of Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen, Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.
In other Tottenham team news, the club’s senior defender is a month ahead of schedule on his return to the side.
