Pundit ‘amazed’ as Rangers tipped to hand Van Bronckhorst war chest this month
Rangers will give Giovanni van Bronckhorst “money to spend” this month following the sale of Nathan Patterson, according to Paul Robinson.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League goalkeeper expects Van Bronckhorst will refrain from making new signings given his side’s “amazing” form.
On Tuesday, the Gers confirmed Patterson, 20, had moved to Everton for a club-record fee.
Football Insider understands (4 January) that the Premier League club will pay an initial £12million fee, which could rise to £16million with add-ons.
Rangers have made just one signing so far this month – USA international James Sands arriving on an 18-month loan deal.
When asked by Football Insider if the fee secured from Patterson’s sale will lead to further incomings, Robinson said:
“It is hard to say how much will go back into the transfer budget.
“To be honest, things are going so well for Rangers at the moment, do they need to strengthen in January? The manager will not want to upset his squad. To bring in a player at this stage of the season is always a risk.

“You have to do your due diligence. It would have to be the right type of character who fits into that dressing room. Rangers are top of the league and playing well every week. There are not many players within Rangers’ budget who will better them in this window.
“If Van Bronckhorst wanted money to spend though I’m sure they’d back the manager because he has done an incredible job so far.”
