Pundit can’t believe Amadou Onana signing after Everton source’s reveal
Everton should be spending £30million on a new striker rather than on Amadou Onana.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ new recruit.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday (6 August), that Onana, 20, was in England and undergoing a medical at Everton after a full agreement with Lille was struck.
The midfielder was in attendance as his new side lost 1-0 to Chelsea at Goodison Park the same day.
Romano also reported the Toffees will pay a fee of €36million (£30.3million) plus a further €4million (£3.4million) in add-ons – as well as a 20% sell-on clause.
Kenny insists this money should be being spent on a striker instead.
“You’d have thought they would spend that money on a striker,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It depends how much Calvert-Lewin’s injury has changed things for them. We will have to wait and see but for me, they have to go and sign a striker.
“It’s finding the right striker as well, everyone is after them. It’s going to be a long, tough season if they don’t get one in.
“Is a centre midfielder a priority for Everton? Not after Calvert-Lewin’s injury. It’s a strange one.”

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (3 August) that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is facing three months on the sidelines after tearing his lateral collateral ligament.
Everton are next in action against Aston Villa on Saturday (13 August).
