Pundit can’t believe big-money Man United news after source’s £60m reveal
Noel Whelan has claimed Man United may have “priced themselves out” of top transfers by waiting until too late in the summer window.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested their latest business is a “knee-jerk reaction” to their poor start to the new campaign.
Man United confirmed they have reached an agreement in principle to sign Casemiro on Friday (19 August) – with the Red Devils reportedly paying up to £70million for his services.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (20 August) that the Old Trafford club have turned their attention to signing Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi before the 1 September deadline.
Erik ten Hag’s side have also reportedly seen a £67.6million bid for long-term target Antony rejected by Ajax as they desperately search for attacking reinforcements.
Whelan suggested Man United should have completed their transfer dealings in time for pre-season.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “All these deals should have been done way before now.
“The longer you leave it, the more teams are going to put up their prices for players. They should have been in the door for pre-season.
“Again, it’s just a mess. They’re doing all this business from a knee-jerk reaction to the two games – all just two weeks before the window shuts.
“They must have known what they needed at the end of last season.
“I don’t understand why they’re pricing themselves out of transfers by leaving it this late.”

Casemiro will join fellow summer signings Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, and Christian Eriksen at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have made their worst start to a top-flight season in 101 years – and face Liverpool on Monday (22 August).
