Pundit can’t believe David Moyes sack development at West Ham – ‘be careful what you wish for’

Noel Whelan has insisted West Ham fans must “be careful what they wish for” as calls grow for David Moyes to be sacked.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, urged the Irons supporters to “get behind” the 59-year-old despite their lowly league position.

Moyes fielded criticism from fans at the London Stadium and on social media as West Ham fell 2-0 against Leicester City on Saturday (12 November).

Boos rang around the ground as the Irons lost their third consecutive Premier League game.

West Ham now sit 16th in the top flight – one point clear of the relegation zone.

Nevertheless, the BBC claim (13 November) club chiefs are backing Moyes to pull the Londoners out of their current slump.

The report claims senior sources at the club believe the ex-Everton boss deserves the right to turn form around.

Whelan hailed Moyes for turning Championship signings into “world beaters” in recent seasons.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Be careful what you wish for.

“But also remember what Moyes has done. He’s been a fantastic manager at West Ham over two spells.

“He’s made big decisions on big names, got rid of them. He’s then gone out and got players in from the Championship and made them world beaters.

“Let’s not forget what he’s done and where he has put them – they’re still in Europe.

“He’s done a brilliant job. It’s not been plain sailing, no – but it’s the same for a lot of clubs. Look at Liverpool.

“Go back two or three seasons and West Ham were in a relegation fight. Since then, he’s taken them all the way up the table.

“Stick with him, get behind him – and give him the support he deserves.”
