Pundit can’t believe he saw Kalvin Phillips ‘celebrating’ after Man City-Declan Rice update
Kalvin Phillips had a difficult opening season at Manchester City since his move from Leeds united.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Former West Ham striker Franck McAvennie has warned Declan Rice that he could face similar issues to Phillips if he is to join the Manchester club this summer.
Football Insider revealed (13 May) that Man City were set to enter the race to sign Declan Rice this summer, and they are now in talks, with the star expected to leave the Hammers to join a club able to match his Champions League ambitions.
City are on the lookout for midfield reinforcements and are willing to throw their name into the hat for Rice‘s signature after identifying him as a top target.
There has been plenty of interest around Europe in Rice’s signature this summer, with Arsenal and Bayern linked to a £100m deal for the midfiedler.
With a move to Man City on the cards, McAvennie has cited Phillips’ struggles as a reason Rice must choose his next move carefully.
“Rice wouldn’t enjoy winning without playing,” He told Football insider.
“I saw Phillips celebrating at the end of the season, but he has hardly played any games.

“I wouldn’t like that, of course are you still part of the squad, but you want to be part of the team and play every game.
“Phillips was similar to John Terry in terms of wearing the kit under his suit and taking it off once the team has won, even though he did not play a part.”
