Pundit can’t believe Pep Guardiola could walk away from Man City – ‘everyone loves him’

Alan Hutton has claimed Pep Guardiola won’t “rush away” from Man City even if they break their Champions League hoodoo this season.

The former Tottenham and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Premier League champions look a “different team” thanks to the signing of Erling Haaland.

Guardiola is in the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

As quoted by the BBC (1 October), the Spaniard said Man City will be in safe hands when he decides to move on.

Guardiola won the Champions League twice at former side Barcelona but has failed to repeat the feat in Manchester despite reaching one final and one semi-final.

Hutton hailed Man City’s ability to “constantly evolve” under Guardiola while the likes of Liverpool maintain the same group of players.

He told Football Insider: “I think only he would be able to answer the question of his future.

“The thing with Man City is they never stay the same. Liverpool have been through a cycle with the same players which is now coming to an end.

“What Pep does is he makes sure his side is constantly evolving.

“Look at Haaland – they look a different team this year.

“The holy grail for him will be going for the Champions League. If he wins it this year, what’s next?

“Everyone loves him, he gets backed in the transfer market every year. Where else can you go after that?

“It’s a great place to be for him. I don’t see why he’d want to rush away.”
