Pundit can’t believe Pochettino could quit PSG for Man United after Romano update

Paul Robinson has claimed Mauricio Pochettino would find managing Paris Saint-Germain “far more attractive” than joining Manchester United.

The former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 49-year-old could instead return to Tottenham when his tenure in the French capital ends.

Speaking on the Football and Friends podcast (November 9th), journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed the United board have their sights on Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers and Erik ten Hag should they sack Solskjaer.

Man United

A source with knowledge of Pochettino’s situation has told Football Insider today he would love to return to the Premier League one day and would be especially keen to return to Tottenham.

Football Insider understands Man United will sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if he cannot transform the club’s fortunes in coming weeks.

However, Robinson questioned if the Old Trafford post would be a big enough lure for 49-year-old Pochettino.

“He’s not far off winning major honours with PSG, he’s gone there because it’s an opportunity to manage some of the best players in Europe,” Robinson told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“He’s going to be challenging for the Champions League later this season – would he leave that project halfway through?

“I don’t know that he would. Is the lure of Man United still that big?

“I always thought he would go back to Spurs at some point. Conte only usually sticks around for 18 months, two years or so. That could mean Pochettino goes back in at Tottenham.

“Personally, being the manager at PSG at the moment with the opportunity and players he has there that is far more attractive than managing Man United.”

Chelsea

Pochettino enjoyed a successful five-year spell in the hot seat at Tottenham, reaching the Champions League final in 2019.

He has also managed Premier League club Southampton.
