Pundit fears ‘absolute disaster’ at Newcastle after ‘nonsensical’ Emenalo update from Ornstein
Paul Robinson has insisted “it would be nonsensical” for Newcastle United to appoint a director of football after the January transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League goalkeeper stressed the importance of getting someone in place before January – “the most important window in the club’s history”.
According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (30 November), it is probable that a director of football might not be appointed until after the January transfer window.

Progress is said to have slowed despite leading candidate being Michael Emenalo “ready and available to start immediately”.
Emenalo is highly regarded after 10 trophy-laden years at Chelsea.
When asked for his thoughts on the news, Robinson told Football Insider:
“If you want a director of football in your system, you have got to get him in place before the transfer window. He needs to be central to the recruitment process.
“The January transfer window is quite possibly the most important window in the club’s history. The level of investment that is there, it would be an absolute disaster if they fell into the Championship.
“If they have decided they want a director of football, they have to have somebody in place now. There needs to be a clear plan for January and for the summer.

“It just seems quite obvious to do that. Why would you employ somebody after the window?
“If you are going to bring in someone like Emenalo you want them in so you can utilise their contacts. It would seem nonsensical to bring them in after the window has closed.”
In other news, a pundit has given his ‘100%’ backing to Newcastle after January transfer plans revealed by source.
