Pundit hails ‘unbelievable’ Forshaw after ‘great’ Leeds news confirmed
Noel Whelan has claimed “it’s great to hear” Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw’s injury is not as bad as first feared.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 30-year-old has been “unbelievable” in the absence of the stricken Kalvin Phillips.
Leeds United confirmed that Forshaw had penned a new one-year deal at Elland Road on Friday (14 January), with the Yorkshire club holding the option to extend his stay by another 12 months.
The midfielder limped off as the Whites defeated West Ham 3-2 on Sunday with a suspected hamstring injury.
Forshaw took to Instagram yesterday (17 January) to reveal he suffered a “small” injury but insisted he is “fighting” to be fit to face Newcastle this Saturday.
Whelan claimed the former Middlesbrough man has “taken up the mantle” in Phillips’ injury absence.
“He thoroughly deserves that new contract,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“The injuries we’ve had this season, especially to Kalvin Phillips, has meant that he’s had to step up and be that reassuring presence in the midfield.
“He’s taken up the mantle in Phillips’ absence. He gets on the ball, starts moves off, looks really fit – and provides a real touch of quality.
“He’s brave, he wants the ball in tight areas – he’s not afraid to take games by the scruff of the neck.
“It’s also unbelievable news to hear that his injury is a minor one because we really need his experience in the middle of the park. He’s been unbelievable.”

Forshaw made his Leeds United return earlier this season after missing 22 months of action through injury.
The midfielder, whose contract was set to expire in June, has made 18 appearances this term.
In other news, pundit predicts Leeds United could seal another ‘amazing’ contract extension.
