Leeds could seal 'huge' Raphinha deal after 'amazing' talks confirmed - Phillips
Raphinha signing a new contract would be “like another major signing” for Leeds United, according to Kevin Phillips.
The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said it would be “a huge coup” if the club can get the 25-year-old to pen new terms.
Raphinha has two-and-a-half years remaining on the four-year deal he penned upon his arrival at Elland Road in 2020.
As quoted by Leeds Live (14 January), Marcelo Bielsa said the club have made “a great decision” by entering contract talks with the Brazilian.
The winger starred on Sunday in a 3-2 win over West Ham.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his reaction to Bielsa’s comments, Phillips said: “That’s amazing to hear.

“It would be like another major signing if he renews.
“He is getting linked with a lot of clubs at the moment and it’s no surprise because he’s one of their best players, if not their best. He is a top quality player.
“Leeds need to get him tied down. If they want to progress and move forward then they need to keep him. It is as simple as that. If they can get him tied down to a long-term deal then they don’t have to worry about him.
“It would be a huge coup if they can get him to sign. It would not surprise me if one of two clubs tested the water late on in the window.”
