Pundit has ‘issue’ with Celtic new boy Juranovic after what he saw in person v Rangers

Alan Hutton has insisted new Celtic star Josip Juranovic needs to play at right-back despite an “impressive” debut at left-back against Rangers.

The former Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, praised the Croatian for coping with his baptism of fire at Ibrox.

Juranovic was announced as a Celtic player last month (August 21st), after Football Insider revealed the Parkhead club had agreed a £2.6million fee with Legia Warsaw.

A natural right-back, he made his full debut for the Hoops in the 1-0 Old Firm defeat as a left-back.

Hutton admitted he was impressed with what he saw.

However, he suggested the Hoops lost some balance playing him out of position.

“I thought he was impressive,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“The only downside, speaking from experience as a right-back who played at left-back, is sometimes your tendency is to come inside the pitch a lot, onto your stronger foot.

“It takes that ball down the line away. Kyogo was playing down that flank, it’s difficult to play that pass early on your left foot.

“Obviously when you get into crossing areas, the standard isn’t going to be as good.

“He’s obviously an intelligent player who loves to get forward. He’s got pace about him and he looked good defensively. But he will ultimately want to play right-back.

“To be thrown into such a high-pressure game, with the atmosphere probably unlike anything he’s seen before. I thought he handled it really well.”

Celtic

Juranovic has 14 caps for Croatia and was part of their squad for Euro 2020.

He came in to provide competition for Anthony Ralston, who has impressed at right-back for the Hoops at the start of this term.

In other news, this pundit claims Celtic will be “desperate” for Christopher Jullien to return.
