Pundit issues ‘horrible’ Casemiro verdict after Sky’s Man United update

Man United are paying over the odds to sign Real Madrid star Casemiro.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ attempts to bolster their squad.

On Thursday (18 August), Sky Sports reported Man United are “close” to agreeing a £59.2million deal to sign Casemiro.

It is claimed the 30-year-old will sign a four-year deal at Old Trafford with the option to extend for another 12 months.

Kenny claims the transfer smacks of desperation.

“They are desperate, they need bodies in,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s a lot of money for a 30-year-old but you look at players of that age nowadays, it’s totally different to how it was 10 years ago.

“Players are totally fit, on a different level. They play a lot longer these days. Agewise, it does not concern me.

“It is a lot of money in wages but we know he is an excellent player. I think he has won the Champions League about five times.

“That’s ridiculous. I think that is where Man United are at the minute, they have to pay over the odds to get players because they are desperate.

“They are in a horrible situation, they have to get themselves out of it and this is the only way, for me.”

Casemiro has made 336 appearances for Real Madrid.

He has won 18 major honours with the club.
