Pundit issues ‘massive’ Newcastle transfer verdict as £50m January signing plan reported
Frank McAvennie insists Newcastle need to “rip everything up” and start again if they want to avoid relegation.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims there are only two players who should survive the rebuild.
Newcastle are now one of the richest clubs in world football after the Saudi-led takeover was approved over the international break.

However, The Telegraph claim the new owners will only look to spend around £50million in January.
Newcastle lost 3-2 to Tottenham on Sunday, keeping them in the relegation zone and winless in nine this season.
McAvennie claims Newcastle need to start from scratch with only Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson safe from the chop.
“They need to rip everything up and start again,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“The squad is barely good enough to stay in the Premier League but they can’t do anything about that until January so the manager is the priority.
“Look at that squad, how many top players are there? Wilson and Saint-Maximin. That’s it.
“I know these things take time and Newcastle won’t be winning titles next season.
“But they need a solid foundation and that just isn’t there right now.
“The new owners have a massive job on their hands.”

Wilson returned to the Magpies’ starting 11 against Tottenham and opened the scoring with less than two minutes on the clock.
Saint-Maximin hs been Newcastle’s most vital player this season, chipping in with two goals and three assists in the Premier League.
