Pundit makes ‘extortionate’ Everton player claim after Sky’s double transfer update

Noel Whelan has urged Everton to push to get Moise Kean and James Rodriguez “off the wage” bill before the transfer deadline.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted the Toffees could strike secure some late signings getting the pair off the books.

As reported by Sky Sports (26th August), Everton need to sell to buy players before Tuesday’s deadline, with Rodriguez and Kean among those up for sale.

The broadcaster claims (28 August) Kean is close to rejoining Juventus on a two-year loan with an obligatory £17million purchase clause.

Sky (27 August) also report Everton are in talks to sign Luis Diaz in a deal that could see Rodriguez join Porto on loan.

Whelan admitted the Toffees needed to take what they could for the pair, even on loan.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “The problem is who wants them right now? Rodriguez, I can imagine his wages will be extortionate, what they’re paying him.

“Kean? PSG have no need to have him now that they’ve got Messi. That squad is huge, it’s massive.

“There might be an opening for Moise Kean for another loan (this) season. Just get him off the wage bill.

“You’ve got to look that there’s nobody knocking on doors. I’m not hearing anything about these players being needed by another club.

“It’s going to be frustrating for Everton. They want to improve their squad.. They’ve got too many players not required by other teams in any way, shape or form. That’s whether it’s a sale or a loan.

“Right now, they could be pushed up against the wall and not be able to make any transfers by the deadline.”
