Everton told to snub mega-money Richarlison offer after Sky update - pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted Everton cannot afford to cash in on Richarlison ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed it would be nearly impossible for the Toffees to replace the 24-year-old.

As reported by Sky Sports (27th August), PSG will make a move for Richarlison if Real Madrid are successful in signing Kylian Mbappe.

The Spanish giants are reportedly confident of striking a deal for the Frenchman after talks on Thursday (26th August).

Whelan admitted Everton could strengthen their squad with at least two new players were Richarlison to be sold.

However, he warned the new additions might lack the “world-beater” qualities of the Brazilian.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s a possibility but then you’re losing a star.

“You’re looking at Everton, the way they’re going with the new stadium, they were looking to build and build on top of what they had last year. To really challenge for the top six.

“If you lose a player like Richarlison, you’d maybe get two signings in with the money.

“But you’ve got to look for quality. They’re not in the Champions League, that’s the problem. Top players want to play in the Champions League, so are you going to get anything any better? Probably not, in my opinion.

“I think you need him to push yourself into European spots this year. He’s a very important player to them. Between himself and Calvert-Lewin, they’ve got a good relationship.

“On his day, he’s a world-beater. Yes, he can be petulant at times, but at the same time, he’s world-class.

Brazil’s number nine, do you really want to lose that? Are you going to be able to replace that? No.”
