Pundit on Crysencio Summerville joining Newcastle United after source’s reveal
Alan Hutton has suggested Crysencio Summerville would struggle to break into the Newcastle United team if he quits Leeds United this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Newcastle are looking to add “quality not quantity” and need players who are capable of replacing members of the starting XI.
On Monday (24 April), sources told this site that the Magpies are one of the top clubs monitoring the 21-year-old’s situation ahead of the summer window with Borussia Dortmund also keen on the Leeds forward.
The winger’s current contract at Elland Road runs until 2026 but will struggle to keep hold of the attacker if they are relegated to the Championship this season.
But Hutton doesn’t think Summerville would be a worthwhile addition, given the talent already at St James’ Park.
“I do not think they need someone like that right away,” he told Football Insider.
“I think he is a talented footballer, great technical ability but you look at the likes of [Miguel] Almiron, he is not even playing at this moment in time. [Jacob] Murphy came in the other day and looked outstanding.
“They have got so many options now and I think moving forward, whoever you bring in it is quality not quantity.

“Are they better than what you have? Are they going to play in front of the players that they already have? That is something Eddie Howe will need to figure out and he will need to move players on.
“But I do not think they need someone like that at this moment in time.“
