Pundit reacts to Allardyce potentially returning to Newcastle after confirmed news
Frank McAvennie claims no top managers want to take the Newcastle job as the club is still “a mess”.
However, the former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted any links with managers like Sam Allardyce are “rubbish”.
Newcastle are still looking for a new manager after parting ways with Steve Bruce, 60, on 20 October.
Graeme Jones remains in charge of the first team and led his side to a respectable draw at Selhurst Park during his first game.
Several managers have been linked with the vacant post with BILD’s Christain Falke claiming on 27 October that Lucien Favre is now the favourite.
McAvennie claims he’s seen people on social media speculating about Allardyce returning to Newcastle with the club in the midst of a relegation battle.
However, he claims there is no chance of “Big Sam” returning to the club.
“They have to be looking for a short-term appointment,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“The new owners can’t be looking at someone who will still be here in 2027.
“A manager needs to come in who can establish them as a top 10 side.
“Also, let’s be honest, no top manager is looking at Newcastle right now, it’s a mess.
“I have seen some rubbish on social media about Allardyce coming back.
“I get where those people are coming from but it obviously won’t be Sam.
“He has the experience but could you imagine that, if he came back? They need someone who can turn Newcastle into a domestic force.

“Obviously Allardyce can’t do that. Like look at City, they didn’t have Pep on day one.
“They need someone safe who won’t get them relegated. That’s the first step.”
