Pundit salutes ‘brilliant’ Liverpool ‘new signing’ after Elliott reveal
Harvey Elliott will be like a new signing for Liverpool as he nears a first-team return.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the attacker was handed a “huge boost”.
Elliott, 18, has been sidelined with an ankle injury since Liverpool’s 3-0 win at Elland Road in mid-September.
As pictured on Instagram (18 January), the attacking midfielder returned to first-team training ahead of the Reds’ trip to Arsenal.
Speaking to club media last Wednesday ahead of the League Cup semi-final second leg, Pepijn Lijnders revealed Elliott “needs time” before being involved in matches.
Kenny is just glad to see the player fully recover from his injury.
“It was such a blow for him, that injury,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He was being included in the first team and it was a real chance for him to stake a claim.
“It’s great to see him back and honestly, it is such a huge boost for the player and the club.
“One thing I will say is that in a weird way it’s good he is still a young lad and this happened.
“Obviously, it shouldn’t have happened, but if it had to, it’s good Elliot is so young.
“An older player might not recover from that. He will be like a new signing in a way.
“That desire to impress and hit the ground running will be there. It will be brilliant to see him back out there.”

Elliot had started three of Liverpool’s opening four Premier League games this season before picking up his injury.
To date, he has made 13 senior appearances for the Reds.
