Pundit shares Bruno Guimaraes fear as Newcastle United fans told ‘you have to worry’

Newcastle United fans should be worried about a lack of updates on Bruno Guimaraes’ new contract.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Brazilian’s future.

On 24 December, Football Insider revealed Newcastle are making progress on agreeing a £200,000-a-week new contract with Guimaraes that could be worth up to £60million.

The midfielder, 25, has been targeted by Europe’s elite clubs after making a huge impact since his £40million arrival at St James’ Park.

As revealed by Football Insider (15 October), Newcastle are willing to offer Guimaraes a huge pay hike that would take him to around £200,000-a-week and extend his deal by two more years.

Guimaraes‘ current £120,000-a-week contract runs until the summer of 2026.

“I thought this would be sorted by now,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“This was on the cards months ago and it still hasn’t been announced, you have to wonder if something is going on.

“It should be the easiest deal in the world to do, just pay him whatever he wants because he is that good. He’s the best signing Newcastle have made in years.

“What could be holding it up? It’s not like Newcastle can’t afford to pay him the big bucks. By all accounts, it looks like he loves the club and I’m sure a deal will get done.

“But you have to worry because sorting out a deal like this shouldn’t take months.”

Guimaraes has started 17 of Newcastle’s 20 Premier League games so far this season.

He has scored three goals.
