Pundit shreds ‘awful’ Luke Shaw amid ‘big’ Man United claim

Frank McAvennie has slammed Man United defender Luke Shaw after his performance against Liverpool last weekend.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said it was the “worst” performance he has seen from Shaw.

The Red Devils were hammered 7-0 by Liverpool last weekend (5 February).

As relayed by OptaJoe (5 March), the win was Liverpool’s biggest ever competitive victory over the Red Devils, surpassing their previous record of 7-1 which was set back in October 1985.

Shaw has been a staple in Erik ten Hag’s defence this season and has made 33 appearances across all competitions so far.

As quoted by the Guardian (6 March), the left-back apologised for the “completely unacceptable” defeat and said he felt “embarrassed” when he was on the pitch.

United redeemed themselves with a commanding 4-1 win over Real Betis in their Europa League clash on Thursday (9 March).

But McAvennie was unimpressed by the defensive display he saw last weekend.

The defence at Man United was awful,” he told Football Insider.

It was the worst I have seen Shaw play and I am not a big fan of Shaw. He was kicking it off his own defenders and I was thinking ‘make a better effort than that’.

Man United

They completely collapsed, the whole team. Every time Liverpool went up the park it looked like they were going to score.

They have got a big game against Southampton because if they do not get on the front foot it will be even worse.

In other news, according to sources, Man United fear they won’t be able to sell Harry Maguire due to ‘insane’ wages.
