Pundit suggests radical change on the cards as controversial Newcastle United footage analysed

Newcastle United should have been awarded a goal during their 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday (3 September).

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

In the second half of Saturday’s draw, Tyrick Mitchell scored an own goal after the ball hit him in the face following a ball back across the box.

Mitchell was only able to make contact with the ball by pushing Joe Willock into Vincente Guaita while in midair, causing both players to go down injured.

Referee Michael Salisbury was sent to look at the VAR monitor and ruled out the goal, claiming Willock had fouled Guaita.

Wenham can’t believe the Magpies weren’t awarded a goal.

“I find it utterly bizarre,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I can think of four incidents where VAR got big decisions wrong in four different games on Saturday.

“In the Newcastle game, that was a ridiculous decision. It was a definite goal.

“How the referee can look at that and not see that Willock has been pushed into Guaita, I don’t know.

“It’s a clear goal and Newcastle can rightly feel hard done by. There has been few decisions like that in their games this season.

“Something needs to change because this can’t go on.”

Newcastle also hit the post in the game while Alexander Isak missed a one-on-one in the first half.

Eddie Howe’s side are next in action against West Ham on Sunday (11 September).
