Pundit suggests real reason Antonio Conte hasn’t signed new Tottenham deal amid ‘£200m’ claim

Antonio Conte has not signed a new deal at Tottenham due to concerns over the transfer budget.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Italian’s future.

As quoted by Football.London on Tuesday (18 October), Conte has claimed “my contract is not in this moment important”.

As revealed by Football Insider on 8 October, Tottenham are in talks with Conte over an extension that would be worth in excess of £20m – equivalent to around £400,000-a-week – and make him the best-paid manager in the Premier League.

The 53-year-old is under contract until the end of this season after signing a one-and-a-half-year deal when he joined Spurs in November.

McManus claims Conte will be looking for a guaranteed £200million to spend next summer.

“I think he will be wanting to be heavily backed in the transfer market,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.7

“They have to finance where Conte wants to be, in terms of budget and in terms of how much they can actually spend.

“Conte will want guarantees from the chairman that in the next summer window they are going to spend big.

“£150million, £200million you need to spend on that squad to get the best players. I think if he gets that guarantee then he will sign that new deal.

“I think the reason why he hasn’t signed the deal is that he is unsure of the money he is going to be to spend. Maybe he is getting a bit frustrated at the depth of his squad.”
