Pundit verdict on Leeds United appointing ‘next Marcelo Bielsa’ within weeks after confirmed news
Alan Hutton has suggested Jon Dahl Tomasson could be given the manager’s job at Leeds United if they are relegated this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said that having someone with a similar style to former boss Marcelo Bielsa could help them win promotion back to the Premier League if they are relegated.
On 29 April, sources told this site that the Whites have a growing interest in Blackburn Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson and have been hugely impressed by his transformation of the club this season.
The 46-year-old’s playing style is similar to revered ex-Leeds boss Bielsa, which has been attracting attention of current clubs chiefs.
On Wednesday (3 May), the Yorkshire club confirmed that manager Javi Gracia has been sacked and replaced by Sam Allardyce for the remaining games of the season as they look to survive relegation.
The club are looking at Tomasson as a potential for their next permanent manager for the 2023-24 campaign.
When asked if a manager like Bielsa is what Leeds need, Hutton told Football Insider: “If they go down then maybe, it has worked before.
“So it could be an avenue that they are going to go down again.
“It has just not worked out for them. They have tried all different things, sacking the manager, bringing new people in, trying to get that bounce, and it has not worked. I can’t quite put by finger on what it is.

“They concede too much, they have not had that striker when [Patrick] Bamford has been out and that will be a struggle for them between now and the end of the season.
“It might best suit them if they revert back to something that they know. If they go down and do that, can they come straight back up? We will have to wait and see.“
