Rabbi Matondo tipped for Rangers exit amid ‘big’ claim – pundit
Rabbi Matondo “has not done enough” to stay at Rangers next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie said it would be “wrong” for the Gers to keep hold of Matondo after allowing Scott Arfield to leave.
The 22-year-old joined the Gers from Schalke last summer and put pen to paper on a four-year deal.
The winger has reportedly been made available for transfer by Michael Beale should a suitable offer emerge.
But, according to footballscotland (3 July), Matondo is keen to remain at Ibrox and fight for a place in the side.
Beale has already added Sam Lammers, Abdallah Sima and Cyriel Dessers to his attacking ranks for next season which could push Matondo further down the pecking order after just 11 starts last term.
McAvennie suggested it may be time for the youngster to depart.
“I do not think he has done enough to merit staying there,” he told Football Insider.
“I think the chances he had, he has not taken them and coming to a big club you only get so many chances.
“I would let him go because I have not seen him play any level that he should be playing at for a club like Rangers.

“If you are letting players like Arfield go and keeping Matondo I think it is a wrong situation, boys like Arfield would have run through a brick wall for Rangers and Matondo does not seem like he wants to do that.
“If he is not going to do that then you have got to get him out the door and get somebody in that will do that.“
