'Sorry for the fans' – Radrizzani delivers damning verdict on Leeds' shock defeat v Newport
Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has said that the club’s shock exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Newport County is the worst experience he has had since joining the club.
The Whites were stunned by the mid-table League Two side on Sunday, with Thomas Christiansen’s men letting slip a 1-0 half time lead at Rodney Parade to collapse in a 2-1 defeat, with the home side netting an 89th minute winner courtesy of substitute Shawn McCoulsky.
The celebrations saw an alleged incident of spitting from Leeds star Samu Saiz, himself a 75th minute substitute, with Mike Dean showing the Spanish attacker a straight red card to compound the defeat for the Championship side.
Reacting on his personal Twitter account after the game, Radrizzani, who originally joined Leeds as co-owner after purchasing 50 per cent of the shares back in 2017, delivered the damning verdict that Sunday’s result was the worst in his year at Elland Road, and that Newport showed the desire to win that the Whites should have.
Radrizzani became the full owner of the club in May 2017 after purchasing the remaining shares from controversial figure and fellow Italian Massimo Cellino, but his tenure at the club got off to a dramatic start as then-manager Garry Monk resigned two days after the takeover.
In other Leeds United news, fans were left raging over one decision which Christiansen made in the Newport defeat.
