Liverpool reach agreement in principle over defender transfer – report

Liverpool full-back Connor Randall is set to join Hearts on a season-long loan, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claim the Merseyside giants are in advanced talks with the Scottish Premiership outfit over a temporary deal for academy graduate Randall.

It is said that a deal is agreed in principle and Randall is keen to make the move north of the border.

The defender, 21, made the last of his eight senior appearances for the Reds against Wolves in the FA Cup back in January and currently finds himself a long way down the pecking order.

Predominantly a right-back, the England youth international is in line for a second loan move after a brief spell at League One side Shrewsbury Town earlier in his career.

Hearts manager Ian Cathro has already made six summer signings — but the midweek Betfred Cup defeat at League Two Peterhead has turned the screw on him following the abysmal end to last season.

Cathro has set his sights on Randall, who has two years left on a Liverpool contract that runs until the summer of 2019.

His senior debut came against Bournemouth at Anfield in October 2015 in the League Cup and he was subsequently handed a new long-term contract.
