Midfielder must be axed at all costs: Rangers best possible XI to play Motherwell
COMMENT By James Black
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha will need to make two changes to his starting XI for Sunday’s Scottish League Cup semi-final against Motherwell at Hampden if he wants to field his strongest side.
Midfielder Josh Windass just be axed at all costs, allowing Aaron Nemane – or absolutely anyone else really – to play down the left flank.
Ryan Jack should also come straight back into the side after missing the 3-0 win over St. Johnstone through suspension, meaning Jason Holt must be placed back on the bench.
Rangers goalkeeper and back-four should take a familiar shape with Wes Foderingham lining up behind James Tavernier, Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso and Declan John.
The Gers kept a clean sheet in the 3-0 win to St. Johnstone and will have taken a confidence boost after keeping a shut-out.
Central midfielders Jack and Graham Dorrans should be reunited in the middle of the park after the ex-Aberdeen ace missed the St. Johnstone win through suspension – meaning Holt drops back to the bench.
After his double against Saints, Mexico midfielder Carlos Pena must keep his place in behind Alfredo Morelos with Nemane and Daniel Candeias out wide.
The Gers are aiming for their first major trophy since 2011 and will be desperate to book a place in the final against the winner of Celtic and Hibernian on Saturday.
