Midfielder axed in Murty diamond formation: Rangers best possible XI v Hamilton
COMMENT
Rangers manager Graeme Murty must make one change to his side if he wants to field his strongest XI when the Gers face Hamilton on Sunday and bring winger Daniel Candeias back into the side.
Murty named a near-full strength side to take on League One side Ayr in last weekend’s Scottish Cup rout at Somerset Park but he must replace midfielder Greg Docherty, who should be axed to the bench, with Candeias in the starting line-up.
After starting Alfredo Morelos and Jason Cummings in the win over Ayr, Murty must keep faith with the duo and allow them time to adjust to each other after limited game-time together so far and go for a diamond-shaped 4-4-2 formation.
Wes Foderingham should start in goals behind a back four of James Tavernier, David Bates, Russell Martin and Declan John.
After having a hand in four of the Gers’ six goals against Ayr, Sean Goss must start again in central midfield and allowed to anchor the side and protect the Light Blues’ defence when full-backs Tavernier and John go surging forward.
Candeias and the impressive Jamie Murphy are the obvious choices to start out wide while Josh Windass must start in the number 10 role at the top of the Gers’ midfield diamond.
Cummings and Morelos should be given another chance to build on their partnership after grabbing three of the Gers’ six goals against Ayr between them.
Murty’s side could find themselves six points behind second-place Aberdeen before they have even kicked a ball with the Dons facing Hibs 24 hours before the Light Blues take on Hamilton at New Douglas Park.
In other Rangers news, a stunning £50,000-a-week deal is on offer to a Light Blues first teamer in game-changing development.
