‘Rangers bias on TNT Sports slammed after Robin Propper controversy’

Rangers bias around the controversial Robin Propper red card against Athletic Bilbao was called out amid the dramatic draw in the Europa League.

The Dutch defender was signed as a replacement for Connor Goldson in the summer, but Propper has endured a miserable time at Ibrox.

The ex-Twente man faired no better in Thursday’s Europa League match-up against Athletic, receiving his marching orders following a VAR review early on.

The Bears held on valiantly against their Spanish opposition, drawing 0-0, but that didn’t stop ex-Hibernian striker Tam McManus from calling out a former Rangers striker after the game.

Ally McCoist told ‘it’s not Rangers TV’ after Robin Propper red

Following the draw, Ally McCoist was criticised for his perceived bias when describing the red card challenge as the railed against the rules which saw Propper dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

The Dutch defender scythed down Inaki Williams on the edge of Rangers’ box in the 10th minute, initially being shown a yellow card.

McCoist was adamantly against the challenge being worthy of a red card after it was overturned as a pundit on the TNT Sports coverage, and McManus let his feelings be known on X after the match.

The ex-Hibs striker said: “Ally its an absolute stonewall red card. If he doesn’t chop him he is clean through on the keeper. If it was Fulham v Brighton you would be saying it’s a red. Meant to be a neutral commentator its not Rangers TV.

Robin Propper unlikely to feature again for Rangers ahead of takeover

Football Insider Verdict

Should the 49ers Enterprises be successful in their takeover of Rangers, the Bears are likely to receive a heavy makeover on the current squad.

In spite of the Gers making a deep European run this season, the league form has simply not been good enough, with the gap to Celtic standing at 13 points.

Jack Butland is likely to leave Ibrox, with Liam Kelly starring as his replacement against Athletic, saving a penalty from Alex Berenguer.

Ianis Hagi could also be leaving Rangers, but whilst those two have had their moments for the club, Propper has endured a miserable first campaign in Scotland, and it would be a shock to see him remain with the side.

The Dutchman was benched for the previous two games against Fenerbahce and the red card against Athletic may have been his last action for the Bears.
