Caixinha shares what Rangers were missing last season, says this is only option for club

Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has showed his fighting spirit and desire to succeed with his club ahead of the upcoming Premiership 2017/18 campaign.

He has said they were missing “strong men” before he came in and that “winning is the only option” for a club the size of Rangers.

Following the Portuguese boss’ move to the Ibrox in March, the 46-year-old has been busy making changes, improvement and stamping his identity into the club.

His determination to win this season was highlighted after he made nine signings during his first transfer window with the club.

Caixinha has now verbally revealed his desire to win, but will play it by ear from game-to-game.

He said: “We know we are strong, we know the club we are representing and that here winning is the only option. But we need to go game-by-game knowing the massive club that we are representing.”

“We all have those expectations to return the club to the place it deserves and we are going to work in that direction – but only on a game-by-game basis,” Caixinha said as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times. “That’s what we want.”

The Ibrox manager said that the friendly match in France agaisnt Marseille, which ended in a 1-1 draw, was incredibly important in the development of the squad.

“The game against Marseille was a turning point where the team got the confidence in themselves and the understanding for myself that this could be the formation that suits the players best,” he said.

“We have a strong group of characters, 100 per cent. When we came last season to assess the group that was one of the points we identified.

“We needed strong men and we have added that.”

Caixinha’s squad have kicked into action following an embarrassing crash out of the Europa League to Luxembourg outfit Progres Niederkorn last month.

Now the Light Blues will aim to replicate their friendly success in the Premiership as the club head away to Fir Park to face Motherwell on Sunday.
