Rangers can’t afford permanent Malik Tillman deal after source’s update – pundit
Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers can’t afford to offer Malik Tillman a permanent contract.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said Tillman is worth a long-term deal but doesn’t know if the Gers will be willing to pay up.
The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Ibrox from Bayern Munich.
On 21 February, sources told this site that the Light Blues have been told that they are free to sign the midfielder permanently in the coming months.
The German giants have been delighted by the USA international’s progress in Glasgow but are not looking to keep him.
The option to buy included in his loan to Rangers is worth £6.2million and the Gers have been told they can reach an early agreement for the midfielder.
The Ibrox club are yet to indicated wither they will activate the buy option despite Tillman’s impressive form of late.
McAvennie claimed the Gers can’t afford to take up the option.
“They are not going to pay £6million for him,” he told Football Insider.

“I would but I do not think Rangers have got that money to spend. I think he has done well but would he be worth £6million?
“If they spend that much they will want to sell him in a few years for £15-£20million and I do not think that will happen. He is worth a permanent contract but whether he is worth £6million or not I do not know.“
In other news, according to sources, Rangers are hopeful of agreeing Ryan Kent deal after offer submitted.
