Rangers could ‘break the bank’ to sign big names wanted by Ancelotti

Rangers could be prepared to spend big in an effort to back Davide Ancelotti if he is appointed as their next permanent manager.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the transfer plans at Ibrox.

The likes of David Alaba and Luka Modric have been tipped to follow Ancelotti to Ibrox, but their wages may provide a stumbling block.

49ers Enterprises are edging closer to a full takeover of the club, and the potential to bring in big-name players will likely depend on their backing.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 20 April that Rangers’ new manager will be given financial backing as they aim to close the gap on Celtic.

Meanwhile, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Rangers could sign Modric after stepping up talks with Ancelotti.

Rangers plot Ancelotti move as big-name stars to follow

Football Insider revealed on 17 May that Rangers are considering appointing Ancelotti after being impressed by his credentials and training ground methods at Madrid.

The boss is very highly-regarded by the players he has worked with in an extensive career as the assistant manager to his father Carlo.

O’Rourke explained that the only question-marks surrounding the deals for big-name players are based on their financial situation, which will be dictated by the 49ers.

Obviously, there will be question marks over the finances,” he told Football Insider.

“Whether Rangers could afford the wages some of these top players are on.

“A lot of the Real Madrid players were very impressed having worked under him [Ancelotti].

“If players want to go and play under him and work under him, the big question mark would be the finances at Rangers with the takeover set to happen.

“Would they be willing to break the bank to try and sign some of these players?

“They are on very lucrative contracts elsewhere.

“So that would probably be the only question mark.”

Football Insider revealed on 28 May that Rangers will finalise an appointment after 49ers’ takeover is completed, which is expected to happen in due course.

Alongside speculation about Ancelotti, the likes of Steven Gerrard, Danny Rohl, Jose Mourinho and Marco Rose have all been spoken about in connection with the job.
