Rangers could sanction Fashion Sakala exit on one condition – expert

Alan Hutton suspects Fashion Sakala could leave Rangers in January after falling down the pecking order this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said Giovanni van Bronckhorst would let the 25-year-old leave if a suitable replacement can be found.

Sakala was in the starting lineup for Zambia in their international friendly against Mali (26 September).

The forward has only made three appearances for Van Bronckhorst’s side across all competitions so far this season.

On 11 August, The Athletic reported that Sakala had been a target for Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, but the Gers were keen to keep hold of the Zambia international.

He has three years left on his Ibrox contract.

When asked if Sakala could look for an exit in January, Hutton told Football Insider: “I always find January is a bit of a tough time.

Rangers

Unless a player is desperate to go or you can bring somebody in to then fill that position then you can let somebody leave. He [Van Bronckhorst] won’t want to weaken the squad, there’s no getting away from that, so there’s no reason to try and push anybody out.

I’m sure the manager will be happy with him in the squad I just don’t think at this moment in time he’s a starter. So it’s really going to come down to Sakala, does he want to try and get more game time. So it’s going to be up to him I think.
