‘We’re disappointed’ – David Bates delivers verdict on Rangers v Celtic

Rangers defender David Bates has admitted that the Gers are “disappointed” to only pick up a draw against Celtic in Saturday’s Old Firm clash after dominating for long spells against their bitter rivals.

Bates came off the bench after 17 minutes to replace the injured Bruno Alves and went on to pick up the man of the match award after a solid performance at the heart of the Gers defence.

The Light Blues dominated proceedings for long spells and could have scored a couple in the second-half as they pinned Brendan Rodgers’ side in their own half.

Bates revealed the disappointment in the Gers dressing room after the final whistle and admitted he felt they had some “great chances.”

“I think we’re disappointed not to go away with three points. We felt we had great chances,” Bates told Sky Sports after the match, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“They had a couple in the first half but not many in the second, so we’re pretty disappointed.”

The former Raith Rovers defender also picked up the man of the match award earlier this season against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Bates joined the Gers on a development loan in 2016 before agreeing a permanent move in January this year.

The 21-year-old has made six appearances for the Gers this season including starting both of the Gers Europa League qualifiers against Progres Niederkorn.

The defender’s Ibrox contract expires at the end of the season although will be hoping to earn renewed terms at Ibrox.
