Rangers Exclusive: Update on Danny Rohl release clause being triggered
Danny Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday release clause is likely to prohibit a Rangers move for the highly-rated coach, sources have told Football Insider.
Rangers are on the hunt for a new full-time boss after confirming the departure of Barry Ferguson from the role – which he took on an interim basis after Philippe Clement‘s sacking.
Rohl has been widely linked with the Ibrox club but the German is a man in demand after his solid spell with Sheffield Wednesday.
He is a top target at Southampton and has also been linked with the roles at RB Leipzig in his homeland and Fulham in the Premier League – with Marco Silva potentially leaving Craven Cottage.
Rohl has multi-million-pound Sheffield Wednesday release clause
It is believed Rohl has a hefty, multi-million-pound release clause in his contract at Wednesday – which is set to run until June 2027.
Rangers face having to look elsewhere in their search for the first manager of the 49ers Enterprises era – with the US consortium close to agreeing a takeover at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard, Davide Ancelotti, Russell Martin and Marco Rose have all been linked with the hot seat.

Rohl led Sheffield Wednesday to a 12th-place finish in the Championship this term despite working on a slender budget.
He took the role in October 2023 having previously been assistant manager at Bayern Munich, Southampton and with the Germany national side.
‘Martin is the right man for Rangers’
Football Insider has been told by ex-Aberdeen CEO Keith Wyness last week (15 May) that ex-Southampton boss Martin is the right man for Rangers.
He insisted Rangers need a “battle-hardened” boss and claimed Davide Ancelotti would “run away” from the challenge.
Former Scotland international defender Martin was sacked by Southampton in December after leading them to promotion in the 2023-24 campaign.
