Rangers expected 4-4-2 v Motherwell: three summer signings on the bench
By Aramide Oladipo
Rangers are expected to be unchanged from the side that defeated Sheffield Wednesday in pre-season for the opening SPL match of the new season away at Motherwell on Sunday afternoon.
Pedro Caixinha’s side men came away with an impressive 2-0 victory over the Championship side at Hillsborough last Sunday and the Portuguese manager is unlikely to swing away from that starting line-up.
This will mean that new recruits Carlos Peña, Dalcio and Alfredo Morelos will all have to settle for a place on the substitutes’ bench for the first Premiership encounter of the campaign.
Dalcio and Peña did not play a single minute in the match against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.
New summer signings Fabio Cardoso, Bruno Alves, Graham Dorrans, Daniel Candeias, Ryan Jack and Eduardo Herrera are all likely to make their league debuts for the club on Sunday afternoon.
Wes Foderingham is likely to keep his place between the sticks with Lee Hodson and Lee Wallace deployed in the full-back positions.
Josh Windass is poised to start on the right wing whilst Kenny Miller is set to feature up top in a front two.
Rangers will be unable to call upon full-back James Tavernier and midfielder Nico Kranjcar who are both suffering from injuries.
With Old Firm rivals Celtic playing the day before, Rangers might already need to play catch-up on the opening day and they cannot afford to start the season with a negative result.
