Rangers expert issues emphatic Fashion Sakala claim after what he’s seen
Alan Hutton has suggested Fashion Sakala should concentrate on being a winger for Rangers moving forward.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said Sakala “doesn’t suit” the striker role and will struggle for minutes with Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos in favour.
Sakala was in the starting lineup for Zambia in their international friendly against Mali (26 September).
The forward has only made three appearances for Van Bronckhorst’s side across all competitions so far this season.
He last featured for the Gers in their Premiership game against Celtic on 3 September, replacing Ryan Kent for the final 12 minutes of the 4-0 defeat.
Hutton suggested the wider role is more suited to Sakala but he could still struggle for minutes under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
“It’s a difficult one because I think he’s better out wide,” he told Football Insider.
“Playing a wider position and coming infield. I think when he plays the striker role it doesn’t quite suit him. You’ve obviously got Morelos and Colak that are occupying those positions.
“The likes of Kent on the left, he’s never really going to dislodge him so he’s going to find it tough to break into that team. Even when he was fit and firing he wasn’t the kind of go-to guy. So we’ll have to wait and see what happens moving forward. But at this moment in time he’s not a starter under Gio.“

Last season Sakala made 50 appearances for Rangers across all competitions.
In those outings he scored 12 goals and provided seven assists.
