Double injury blow for Rangers ahead of Old Firm clash v Celtic

Rangers face an injury sweat over both left-backs ahead of Saturday’s Old Firm clash

Lee Wallace was forced off against Partick Thistle with a groin injury and new signing Declan John revealed he is also carrying a knock.

Rangers face Partick Thistle on Tuesday before Celtic make the trip to Ibrox next Saturday lunchtime.

John replaced Wallace at Firhill on Friday but manager Pedro Caixinha now faces a sweat over the Welshman’s fitness.

“Of course, I want to play as many minutes as I can. However, I have got a bit of a niggle as well so we will just have to wait and see.” John said, as quoted by the Evening Telegraph.

”Seeing Lee go down early, I didn’t expect to get a call so early on, but I was really happy to get on and I thought I did quite well.

“It was disappointing we only got a point, though. In the last two games the boys had got wins but I think we showed that we can play.”

John’s run-out on Friday was the on-loan defender’s first game since April but he put in a decent performance as Rangers blew the chance to draw level on points with Celtic.

The Hoops now go in to next weekend’s Old Firm with a five-point gap in the Scottish Premiership after easing by Ross County 4-0.
