Rangers fans erupt as Kevin Thelwell lands new job: ‘Talk about failing upwards’
Rangers fans have been plunged into hysterics after their former sporting director Kevin Thelwell landed his first job since leaving Ibrox on Friday.
The 52-year-old has been appointed as the FA’s elite coach developer, a role which will see him take up a key position to help the progression of homegrown coaches, in both the men’s and women’s games.
The former Everton transfer chief is set to head back south of the border to take on his latest position, after he was sacked from his previous role at Rangers alongside Patrick Stewart back in November.
Thelwell’s reputation took a battering from the Gers faithful during his seven-month spell with the Glasgow giants, and he has been the brunt of their jokes once again after taking on his new role.
Rangers fans make Youssef Chermiti jokes amid Kevin Thelwell news
Rangers fans were delighted when Thelwell lost his job at their club earlier in the campaign, after he oversaw some disastrous business in last summer’s transfer window.
His work in the market left the squad imbalanced and lacking quality during the first half of the season, while he also played a key role in the club making the ill-fated appointment of Russell Martin.

The fans’ ire towards the boardroom chief was clear to see once again when Sky Sports Scotland confirmed his move to join the English FA via their X account, as fans piled into the replies to poke fun at Thelwell.
One fan replied to the post with “talk about failing upwards,” while another added “it’s never what you know, it’s who you know.”
It was also pointed out that it was a “bit early for April Fools,” while it was also suggested that Thelwell must have “one hell of a PowerPoint presentation” in order to convince people to keep employing him.
Several Rangers supporters also joked that he will find a way to take Youssef Chermiti with him, given that he has previously signed the striker for both Everton and Rangers.
- @ReeganCraig72: “He’s gonna take Chermiti to the FA with him.”
- @TheRangersEnd: “God help them.”
- @jaimeb87: “Announce Chermiti.”
Rangers chasing Cameron Ashia transfer this summer
Football Insider revealed on Friday that Rangers are currently closely monitoring the progress of Huddersfield starlet Cameron Ashia with a view to making a move this summer.
The winger is out of contract with the English League One outfit at the end of the season, and his performances have prompted interest from Ibrox after six goal involvements in 17 league games.
The 20-year-old could be lured north of the border ahead of next term, with Rangers once again looking towards the EFL as a place to sign promising young talents to develop.
Ashia is among a group of several players that the Glasgow giants are tracking ahead of the summer, and he could soon become one of their next stars.
