Rangers fans love ‘Michelin Man’ Morelos but he is ‘too slow for Scottish football – never mind the Premier League’, says pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed there is “no chance” Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos will join Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said Morelos is “not quick enough” for the Premier League and wouldn’t get on with the fans.

The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer and could be available for free.

Last week (3 April) sources told this site that Morelos would be happy to stay in Glasgow but those with knowledge of the striker’s situation believe that it is time for him to leave.

According to TeamTalk (4 April), Aston Villa are one of a number of Premier League sides interested in taking the Colombian at the end of the season.

On Monday (10 April), Football Insider revealed that the Villans are planning to sign two A-list forwards this summer as Unai Emery looks to take the team to the next level.

McAvennie insisted Morelos is not the answer to Villa’s search for a star striker.

Are they going to drop Ollie Watkins? Watkins is not going anywhere,” he told Football Insider.

He [Morelos] is not quick enough for the Premier League, he is not even quick enough for Scottish football.

He has got a lot of grace with the Rangers supporters because of what he has done but he won’t get away with that with the fans down in England.

I think he is a good player, he scores goals but at the moment he is like the Michelin man.

Rangers

He is not in a good place by the looks of it. He just needs to settle down and get things sorted out that would be a start.

I just think Aston Vila, there is not a chance. There are too many good players down there and Emery would not put up with Morelos, there is no way that is going to happen.

In other news, Rangers have ‘active interest’ in signing Greek star.
